Overview

The ICTJ is currently involved in initiatives involving many African countries, including Ghana, Sierra Leone, and South Africa. Senior staff members have been involved in transitional justice initiatives in some of these nations for many years.

In Ghana and Sierra Leone, the ICTJ is advising truth commissions. The Center is also involved with the Special Court for Sierra Leone, which was established to try those who bear the greatest responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humanity during the 10-year war. In South Africa, the ICTJ is assisting in several follow-up projects arising from the work of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, including an initiative to advance prosecutions in national courts.
