The ICTJ is currently involved in transitional justice initiatives involving several Asian countries, including Sri Lanka and Timor-Leste.
In Timor-Leste, ICTJ staff members have provided extensive advice in the process leading to the creation of the Commission for Reception, Truth and Reconciliation, and continued to advise the United Nations and Timorese civil society as the Commission began operations. Staff undertook several trips to Indonesia prior to the establishment of the ICTJ, and the Center has also completed a major research project designed to identify transitional justice initiatives currently under way in the region. The ICTJ has also conducted capacity-building seminars on transitional justice for Burmese human rights activists. Together with the Asia Society in New York, the Center has co-organized several symposia as part of its "Transitional Justice in Asia Series" focusing on various countries in Asia, including Burma and Cambodia.
